I am Dawid, an independent programmer who creates macros for Tekla Structures. I was a steel detailer, and I have experience with Tekla Structures models and drawings.

My macros can help you with industrial steel structures. I sell them in subscription, which you can purchase on this website. The subscription price depends on the number of computers and selected programs.

💰 About prices: Programming custom solutions is an expensive and time-consuming task. I don’t do it anymore. I decided to make products and sell them for 1/100 of their real cost.

I would like introduce to you my plugin to Tekla Structures – Railing Dimensioning. This program speed up creation of handrail assembly drawings.

What is the Railing Dimensioning plugin for?

The Railing Dimensioning Plugin for Tekla Structures is an extension that automates the creation of railing assembly drawings within Tekla Structures. This program generates sections and dimensions for pre-existing drawings. It supports typical railings used in industrial construction, which consist of columns spaced about one meter apart, connected by a handrail at the top, crossbars between the columns, and a toe board. These industrial railings are usually made from round tubes, square tubes, or angles and are attached to a steel structure with bolts or to a reinforced concrete structure with anchors. This program saves a lot of time.

The program creates dimensions and sections consistently and uniformly for each drawing. The same dimensions are always inserted: axial dimensions at the intersection points of element axes, overall dimensions, bolt spacing, and both vertical and horizontal dimensions. A front view is always generated, along with top, left, and right sections. Optionally, the user can enable a 3D view of the railing. This drawing layout is suitable for at least 80% of railing drawings, thereby automating the majority of the work. The user’s task is reduced to checking the drawings and making minor cosmetic corrections. This algorithm is effective for horizontal railings, sloping stairs, and curved railings at the ends. The program functions both when the drawing editor is open—where only the opened drawing is dimensioned—and from the model level or drawing list, allowing the user to select railing drawings and have the program dimension them all at once.

The user must set the attribute names for views, sections, dimensions, and section marks so that the created drawing elements align with the company’s standards. This should be done before starting the dimensioning process. It is recommended to create one drawing first to verify that the properties are correct. Attribute properties can be saved in the program settings in the same way as properties in other Tekla Structures windows. The relevant file will be created in the model’s “attributes” folder. In the future, this file can be copied along with other view, section, and dimension properties to a new model or to a company folder containing Tekla Structures properties.
